SG Embassy cannot find my passport in System!

23h ago

So, this week I went to renew my Bangladeshi passport at the BD Embassy in Singapore. It was issued in KL, Malaysia. After completing the procedures, the passport officer invited me to his room and told me they could not find my passport in the system! This shocked me because I had used my current passport to travel to Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Denmark, and England. My EP visas are also attached to it. Then the visa officer told me they would issue a totally new passport (not a renewal, which means all my visa records will be gone from the system). To be honest, I cannot understand how my passport wasn't in the system, yet I traveled to so many places without any issue. Therefor...

The Devil walked all the way to #1, as the highly-anticipated ***The Devil Wears Prada 2*** posted a great start. But the real story was overseas, where the film posted an incredible debut across the world. But its presence didn't seem to impact ***Michael*** at all; not only did the film held well on its second frame, but also became the second highest grossing music biopic after just a few days. Among newcomers, Neon's ***Hokum*** posted a pretty good start, while Angel Studios' ***Animal Farm*** unsurprisingly flopped. The Top 10 earned a combined $167.7 million this weekend. That's up 19% from last year, when ***Thunderbolts*** opened atop. Opening at #1, 20th Centu...

Monday Grind: My Temporary Office

1d ago

And it's Sunday! Currently working from a **Starbucks here in Malaysia,** my temporary office for the day. Still exhausted, but trying to catch up on work that I have to complete within this week. Between the lunch break rush, I’m taking this coffee for some much-needed "me time" to find my focus.

I’ve lived in the West for 10 years, ******* **** it when foreigners tell me Malaysia is better than here

2d ago

I’ve lived in the West for a decade. One huge reason is the secularism, religious freedoms, and women’s / ***** rights. I ******* **** it when foreigners try to tell me Malaysia is better than the UK (which is quite a regular experience). I don’t mind if Malaysians say it but **** when foreigners do. Easy for you to say when you don’t have a religion imposed on you at birth that you can’t legally leave, aren’t *****, aren’t atheist, don’t have to work 9-6+ in an office with race politics, aren’t trying to have an interreligious marriage or ***** marriage, don’t want to starve during daylight for 30 days a year. All they think about is beaches and “cheap” cost of livi...

Israel Thought Its Flotilla Grab Was Safe; Spain and Brazil Proved Otherwise

2d ago

Right, so Israel has seized the Global Sumud Flotilla, taken 175 activists off 22 boats, moved most of them through Greece, but dragged two of them back to Israel, and now the bit Israel should really **** is not just the seizure at sea, but the bit that now points back at them having help to actually do it and that’s the bit we should all really ****, because we aren’t getting told this. The Israeli army acted against the flotilla through the US headquarters in Kiryat Gat, the Civil-Military Coordination Center, the CMCC, the very place dressed up as part of that whole sham of a Gaza aid and stabilisation plan. What we have therefore is the body supposedly there to coordinate aid into G...

Odd "Daisaku Ikeda" Wikipedia entry changes

2d ago

It looks to me like the Wikipedia admins got sick and tired of the Ikeda cultists' bullshit. Under the "Institutional Engagement" heading: Here's how it looked on [Aug. 22, 2024](https://web.archive.org/web/20240822193913/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daisaku_Ikeda#Institutional_engagement): >Ikeda founded a number of institutions to promote education, cultural exchange and the exchange of ideas on peacebuilding through dialogue. They include: Soka University in Tokyo, Japan, and Soka University of America in Aliso Viejo, California; Soka kindergarten, primary and secondary schools in Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Brazil and Singapore; the Victor Hugo House...

Why your international clients might be harder to reach

2d ago

I just saw the updated breakdown of WFH days per week for 2026. If you are traveling for business or working with global teams, the in-office culture varies wildly right now. In the UK and Canada, you’ll find people at home 1.5 days a week on average, but in Asia, they are in the office almost every single day (only 0.4–0.5 WFH days). It is a major factor for scheduling in-person meetings or site visits this year, the Western hybrid model is definitely not the global standard yet. (Source: WFH Alert / Aksoy et al.)

Planning a 6-month motorcycle trip through Southeast Asia. Questions about buying a bike in Thailand and border crossing...

2d ago

I am planning to travel Southeast Asia with my girlfriend from September 2026 to February 2027. We want to travel these countries by motorcycle. We have our flights booked to Bangkok and are flexible on where to start from. I already did quite some research on buying and traveling the mainland with a bike, but a couple of questions are still open. Our rough route: **Thailand → Laos → Cambodia** (maybe via Laos depending on Thai/Cambodia boarder situation then) **→ Thailand → Malaysia → Singapore → Thailand → Vietnam** I found that traveling to Vietnam with a foreign bike is basically impossible and that Thailand is probably the easiest place to buy and resell a bike. Hence t...

Solo traveler to Malaysia

3d ago

Hello travelers, I’m planning to take a one-week vacation to Malaysia and wanted to get your thoughts, especially from those who’ve recently traveled from the Philippines. A bit about my situation: \- I’m 26 F \- I work for a US-based nonprofit organization with a Philippine office (Net Annual Income: 5xx,xxx) \- I’ll be enrolling soon at Mapúa University \- This will be my second time traveling abroad alone (first was Singapore) \- I’ll be meeting a friend from another country at the destination Do you think Philippine Immigration (IO) would let me pass without issues? Also, any tips on: \- What documents I should prepare? \- What questions IO usually asks in th...

Marriage Guide: Non-Muslim Foreigners from Two Different Countries

4d ago

FYI, this will be a long thread. Hi peeps, I (an Indonesian passport holder) just got married to my husband (an Indian passport holder) in Johor Bahru a couple of months ago. This case is rare because mixed marriages here are usually between a Malaysian and a foreigner, or between two foreigners from the same country. The Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN) and embassy employees even admitted that our marriage is unique; some of them had never handled such a case before. I am sure there will be other couples from two different countries who want to get married in Malaysia in the future, so I’m writing this guide in the hope that someone finds it helpful. **General guide from JPN:** [https...

How David Pocock reframed the tax debate on gas export profits

4d ago

Senator David Pocock’s question was not intended to elicit information, but to make a point. It was political theatre, really, with Dr Shane Johnson, first assistant secretary in the tax analysis division of the Treasury department, cast as the inadvertent straight man. “Would it be accurate to say that the tax on offshore gas exports – PRRT – is still giving us less revenue than the tax on beer?” asked Pocock, as if he did not already know the answer. Johnson flipped pages in his briefing documents. “Sorry,” he apologised. “Just bear with me a second.” There was a pregnant pause as he located the most up-to-date forecasts, from last December’s budget update. “In 2...

Moving to Kuala Lumpur for the First Time. What Should I Expect as a Single Expat?

4d ago

Hi everyone, I’m currently in discussions with my company regarding a possible relocation to the Kuala Lumpur office and I’m trying to get a clearer understanding of what life there is actually like before making any decisions. I’ve never been to Kuala Lumpur before. The office would be located just a few blocks away from the Petronas Twin Towers, so I assume it’s a fairly central area. I wanted to ask a few practical questions from people who are already living there: * What is a realistic monthly budget for a single person living in KL? * How much does rent typically cost for a decent apartment near the city center? * As a foreigner, what kind of monthly salary range would make...

Japan E-Visa Experience 2026

5d ago

Hello everyone, Just looking to share my experience with VFS and the whole Japan E-visa process. Thought I’d give back since Reddit and Redditors info, tips have been essential crutch on and off my travels. Fully aware that March and April have not been easy on the region and what’s going on is no joke, however I figured why not spread some positivity and hope this helps at least one person that’ll be going through a similar situation. My background: 2nd time applying for the Japan e-visa (first time didn’t go through because of VFS’s website and buggy appointment system, numerous emails later - I got refunded) Single 27M, Filipino citizen and passport holder Working in Dnat...
